Dear
Parents,
I
am writing to give you an update on our Wellness Initiative at Sugar Hill. We have achieved the Gold Shape award from
our state governor for increasing exercise opportunities for our students and
for removing sugary drinks from our vending machines.
Our
goals for this year include making an effort to serve healthy snacks for
celebrations such as birthday parties.
If you plan to bring a class treat this year for your child’s birthday,
please choose a healthy alternative to cupcakes or candy. Some ideas might be natural popcorn that is
free from excessive salts and preservatives, fruit such as grapes, veggie
dippers, or water bottles instead of sugary drinks. I can’t promise that we will never serve
candy or cake, but we are going to make a promise to be conscious of the
amounts of sugars, carbohydrates, and fat contents that we are offering to your
children for treats. As always, feel
free to contact us about any dietary concerns that you have for your individual
child.
We are
looking forward to a healthy, happy year.
Thank you for your support for wellness for all children in the Sugar
Hill community.
Sincerely,
Beth Skarda
