Birthday Party Information

Dear Parents,

I am writing to give you an update on our Wellness Initiative at Sugar Hill.   We have achieved the Gold Shape award from our state governor for increasing exercise opportunities for our students and for removing sugary drinks from our vending machines.

Our goals for this year include making an effort to serve healthy snacks for celebrations such as birthday parties.  If you plan to bring a class treat this year for your child’s birthday, please choose a healthy alternative to cupcakes or candy.  Some ideas might be natural popcorn that is free from excessive salts and preservatives, fruit such as grapes, veggie dippers, or water bottles instead of sugary drinks.  I can’t promise that we will never serve candy or cake, but we are going to make a promise to be conscious of the amounts of sugars, carbohydrates, and fat contents that we are offering to your children for treats.  As always, feel free to contact us about any dietary concerns that you have for your individual child.

We are looking forward to a healthy, happy year.  Thank you for your support for wellness for all children in the Sugar Hill community.

Sincerely,

Beth Skarda

Our 3rd graders are off to a successful beginning of the 2013-2014 school year!

Parents, our classrooms are in need of your help in order to continue our successful start.

·         Some of the 3rd grade homerooms still do not have homeroom moms.  If you would like to help, please contact your student’s teacher.

·         Supplemental supplies would be an extra blessing: Hand Sanitizer, Candy (individually wrapped), and Disinfectant Wipes.  Please do not feel as though you have to send any of these items.  These supplies can be provided as you are able to do so throughout the year.

·         Homework is super important. Please make sure your student has completed his or her homework every evening.  Signing your student’s agenda and Monday folder is a good way to be involved in your student's academic growth.

Thank you in advance for all you do for our 3rd grade!
